WHEREAS there is increasing awareness of the impact of family violence;

AND WHEREAS women’s shelters exist in Canadian communities for women and children who are leaving family settings;

AND WHEREAS men are part of the family and require rehabilitation to end the cycle of family violence;

AND WHEREAS reports indicate that 91% of female victims of abuse express the need for professional help for their assailants;

AND WHEREAS there are few, if any, programs operating which provide counselling for men;

BE IT RESOLVED, that REAL Women of Canada write the appropriate government departments to encourage research, developing and funding into men’s counselling and rehabilitation programs and into family support counselling programs with access available in rural, as well as urban communities.
