POPULATION POLICIES UNACCEPTABLE

1990

WHEREAS human beings are the ultimate resource in any country, a resource which must be renewed in each generation;

AND WHEREAS Canada is facing an imminent demographic crisis because of our low birthrate and the resulting aging population and lack of skilled workers;

BE IT RESOLVED that REAL Women of Canada affirm the right of every married couple to decide on the number of children to be born into the couple’s family, free from any government or other pressure to restrict the number of children born into families.

GOVERNMENT RECOGNITION OF IMPORTANCE OF FAMILIES

1990

WHEREAS, instead of attempting to reduce pollution by encouraging less wasteful lifestyles, some public authorities and private organizations have attempted to limit the freedom of spouses to decide on the number of children the spouses will raise in their own families;

BE IT RESOLVED that REAL Women of Canada recognize and acknowledge the value of families and childrearing in a country such as Canada with its aging population and imminent demographic problems resulting from its low birthright.
