Multiculturalism
The idea of multiculturalism was planted in Canada by former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. In his desire to move away from Canada’s British heritage and to distinguish Canadian culture as something other than American, he announced to the House of Commons in 1971 that policies of multiculturalism would be implemented throughout federal institutions in Canada. There was no warning about it nor any debate on the subject. This began the official fragmentation of Canadian society. Canada was already a bicultural and bilingual country which challenged Canadian unity. Trudeau added the gasoline of multiculturalism to the fire of English-French discord by rejecting the notion of biculturalism in favour of multiculturalism. The idea of “One Canada” and the inclusive concept of unhyphenated Canadians was replaced by multi-hyphenated Canadians.
Multiculturalism gained constitutional status under Trudeau in 1982 with s. 27 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which states:
This Charter shall be interpreted in a manner consistent
with the preservation and enhancement of the multicultural
heritage of Canadians.
The Progressive Conservative government of Brian Mulroney doubled down on multiculturalism in 1988 with the passage of the Canadian Multiculturalism Act. This opened the proverbial floodgates of federal tax dollars paid to ethnic groups, which quickly took the cash and became clients dependent upon the state. The reality is that people do not need the government’s approval or funding to celebrate, sustain or share their cultural identities that are best preserved, sustained and shared through ties of immediate and extended family and friends. Moreover, there was a cynical reason to fund ethnic groups in Canada. It was to encourage the recipients of ethnic funding to vote for the party in power, using the taxpayer’s money to bribe them to do so.
Problems with Multiculturalism
The biggest problem with multiculturalism is that its foundation is based on a falsehood, which is that all cultures are equal. They are not equal in terms of either moral or economic outcomes that advance the progress of individuals and human society. Some cultures are objectively better than others. For example, a culture that recognizes and attempts to achieve, the equal status of women is better than a culture that treats them as second-class citizens with little or no civil rights. Similarly, a culture that encourages intellectual freedom, freedom of conscience and freedom of critical thought free of ideological constraints is better than a culture that represses human creativity and imposes restrictions and penalties on those freedoms.
Newcomers Change Everything
Multiculturalism created problems even for immigrants who were willing to assimilate into Canadian society, as questions about Canadian identity and social cohesion persisted. Multiculturalism became a time bomb that exploded with the recent influx of three million immigrants since 2021 under the Liberal government, making the situation far worse and deepening the fragmentation of Canadian society. Canadian culture fosters and sustains a high-trust society in which private property rights are respected, judicial independence is expected and achieved, voting is open and honest and electoral outcomes are accepted, and government corruption is the exception rather than the rule. This culture is objectively better morally and economically than a culture that enables a low-trust society in which public institutions are corrupt, cronyism is the norm and law is a matter of force rather than free consent.
The recent influx of immigrants to Canada, many of whom share few of these values, has seriously damaged the fabric of Canadian society. The government now functions mainly as a tax collector for the population, not the leader of a nation. Recent newcomers often live parallel lives alongside Canadians rather than integrating into Canadian society. Moreover, there is no shared commitment to the country, its institutions or understanding of its history. Canada has become a place for competing ethnic interest groups who demand privileges with no sense of obligation and service to the country. In short, there is no integration by the newcomers, and no desire to assume the Western values that made Canada possible. Multiculturalism has served both as a shield and a spear for entitlements by these newcomers and the continuation of their distinctive cultural, religious and social practices without recognizing or tolerating Canada’s roots and heritage. These newcomers believe they have no responsibility to Canada, only to their own clan’s sectarian interests and priorities.
Time to Review Multiculturalism
After 53 years of multiculturalism, it is time to acknowledge that this policy choice has been a fantasy that has failed to foster a coherent national vision, let alone Canadian unity.
While not perfect, Canada does offer immigrants a superior social/political matrix made possible by its distinct British and European heritage, cultural norms and laws — the “bourgeois values” so detested by the Left and newcomers. This has allowed for human flourishing. In other words, it was Canada’s cultural norms that allowed for the “free and democratic society” we enjoy today. It is time we rediscover and protect our heritage by preserving and enriching it so that our children can enjoy the liberty and freedom we today all too readily take for granted and are in danger of losing.
Immigration
Canadians have historically welcomed immigrants because they have contributed much to our economy and enriched our culture. This positive impact was due to our former immigration policy, the envy of the world, put in place in 1967, that was based on the point system, whereby an immigrant’s eligibility was determined by points awarded for education, job skills, language facility and ease of placement in the workplace. This point system has facilitated immigration which has been instrumental both economically and socially, in filling jobs required to keep Canada flourishing. This point system allowed immigrants to readily adapt and assimilate into Canada’s economy and culture, while at the same time still enjoying their own ethnic culture and the practice of their Faith. This point system, however, was ignored by the Trudeau government which opened the doors in 2021 to millions of unscreened and unskilled immigrants who had no intention of becoming a part of the Canadian mosaic – and, in fact, were hostile to it.
Unfortunately, these recent arrivals have sidelined the many legitimate immigrants to Canada, who have, over the years, contributed so faithfully to Canadian society. Their contribution should not be tainted with the same unpleasant brush that the newcomers are creating.
Activists Admitted to Canada
The current immigration policy, unfortunately, has allowed massive numbers of immigrants to arrive without proper screening leading to the admission of activists who want only to exploit the country’s economy while attempting to impose their own values and norms on Canadians. They entered this country and settled here living in the enclaves of their own clan or tribes, and under the directions of their religious/political clerics and political leaders who often operate outside the legal infrastructure of Canada, experiencing little backlash from Canadian enforcement authorities. This has resulted in a marked change of attitude among Canadians toward immigration. According to an Environics Poll, 58% of Canadians believe that Canada accepts too many immigrants. A 2025 poll by Research Co. found that 66% of Canadians believe that newcomers should adopt Canadian values.
In the past, most Canadians welcomed immigrants to this country because they worked, built, raised families and contributed to the common good. They were considered a valuable and hopeful addition to this country. However, that has all changed with the massive immigration brought to Canada in recent years. This immigration, coupled with the policy on multiculturalism, has directly led to disharmony and has undermined our public institutions and public safety. It has fractured our shared inheritance by introducing incompatible competing identities, grievances and new moral claims. It has destroyed our unity as a nation because they are not interested in any obligations to Canada or towards any common civic purpose, our democratic values, social behaviour and laws.
Despite this, the new brand of immigrants has been quick to use their numbers to attempt to place their representatives in the corridors of power on city councils, provincial legislatures or the House of Commons in order to acquire benefits not for Canadians, but to gain advantages and privileges exclusively for their own tribe or clan.
The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS)
There are not only democratic, public and cultural problems with these newcomers, but some are also creating security risks. On May 1st, 2026, CSIS reported that foreign countries were engaged actively in Canada to undermine Canada’s national security, values and economic prosperity. It pointed out that this was mainly due to China, India and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Communist China
The Communist government of China is determined to become the world’s superpower by 2040, usurping the U.S. Not surprisingly, China has a deep interest in Canada because of its geographical proximity to the U.S. China believes this creates an opportunity to undermine the U.S. Consequently, China has provided members of Chinese criminal networks with false identity documentation allowing them to be admitted into Canada. These criminal networks, often working with Mexican drug cartels, have established fentanyl manufacturing centers, mostly in BC, trafficking the drugs to the U.S. Chinese criminal triads also engage in extortion, money laundering, prostitution and human trafficking apparently without concern for enforcement by Canadian authorities. Further, according to the January 2025 Report of the Public Inquiry into Foreign Interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions, Commissioner Marie- Josée Hogue concluded China’s interference is a real and serious threat to Canada’s democratic institutions, interfering in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections.
The Liberal federal government, however, is cooperating with Beijing in this regard by allowing individuals of Chinese origin to run for Parliament on behalf of the Liberal party. Once elected, these MPs do not represent a constituency but rather represent Beijing in the Canadian House of Commons. Canadians recently witnessed this when MP Michael Ma crossed the floor to join the Liberal caucus under Mr. Carney, to provide Carney with a majority. Beijing works closely with Carney, its preferred choice for Canada’s prime minister, who has close financial and personal ties with China.
In January 2026, Carney entered into a “partnership” with China, agreeing to allow the RCMP and Chinese intelligence to work together, as well as the Chinese media and the Canadian media to work together. An agreement with China means that China is in control. There is no real partnership. Since the so-called “partnership” agreement, China has insisted that Canada support its policies in regard to a proposed China take-over of Taiwan.
India
Indian citizens are arriving in Canada in droves, using student or work visas as their pathway to obtaining permanent residency here. In 2025, Indian citizens received 45.8% of all study and work visas. When their visas expire these immigrants simply vanish, remaining here and working illegally. In 2024, there were 50,000 students, mainly from India, who never bothered to show up to attend the Canadian educational institution at which they were registered. They disappeared into the country. Indian “students” also work usually part time mostly in minimum wage jobs, creating unemployment for Canadian youth between 18-24 years of age who are now experiencing an unemployment rate of 14%. The abuse of the visas by Indian citizens did lead to the government passing legislation in March 2026 in an attempt to reduce the number of Indian applicants – but this legislation did not address the abuse of the system by these Indian citizens.
The Indian national criminal network known as the Bishnoi Gang is also operating in Canada, especially in BC, Alberta and Ontario having taken advantage of Canada’s lax immigration laws. It is involved with threats, extortion, intimidation and murder. Canadian authorities have connected the India-based Bishnoi gang with the assassination of Sikh leader Singh Nissai, gunned down in the parking lot of a Surry, BC Sikh temple. In a January 2026 RCMP report it states that the Bishnoi Group is working on behalf of the Indian government assisting in repressing Sikh separatists in Canada.
Islamic Republic of Iran
Iran funds the many protest groups of Muslim Jihadists in Canada’s major cities. These Jihadists despise our Judeo-Christian culture, both social and political. They work to impose an Islamic government in Canada, changing our culture to their Islamic culture. Muslims are building an $80 million Islamic school and complex in Edmonton for approximately 2,000 Muslim children. It is the largest ethnic based school in Canada. The school is built with an Islamic architectural exterior, and classrooms facing Mecca. These children will never become Canadian, but rather will be instructed in Islamic culture and values. They will be taught to despise Canada’s Christian cultural values and learn of the ”virtues” of antisemitism. That is the point of the school.
In June 2026, a Mosque in Regina, broadcast the “call to pray”, three times daily, using loudspeakers. This has more to do with crowding out the public square with an Islamic norm than with genuine religious devotion. The “call to pray” includes the statement that Allah is the only true God. This statement is deeply offensive to believing Jews and Christians, as the God of the Bible is not Allah. This also demonstrates a remarkable disrespect and insensitivity to several Christian churches located in the vicinity. Christian churches, by the way, cannot ring their church bells because of anti-noise by-laws. Islamic activists have interrupted our free-speech rights in public talks given by Harley Finklestein, CEO of Shopify, on three separate occasions this past year because of his support for Israel. Islamic protests have also interrupted Christmas shoppers in Toronto’s busy Eaton Centre, drowning out the Christmas carols played over the loudspeakers with their shouts of praise for Allah, stating that he is the only “true” God.
Conclusion
These newcomers, living in their exclusive enclaves in Canada, who actively pursue their own tribal interests over Canadian values, and promote an Islamic republic, or other national cultural loyalties, cannot be welcomed here.
Our country must focus on not only obtaining immigrants who will work and raise their families to provide economic prosperity for themselves, their families and our country, but also focus on requiring and helping them to integrate into our Western society accepting Canadian values.
Unfortunately, our beautiful country has declined into a place of hate, crime and intolerance, thoroughly exploited by foreigners due to our lax immigration laws and fatal policy of multiculturalism. Until these policies are corrected, there is no hope for Canada’s future.
