The UN was founded in 1945 following the horrors of WW II.  Its mission was to establish world-wide peace and security by negotiation and consensus rather than war.  Its policies were based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), which established and universally accepted the Declaration for the protection of human rights for all of mankind.

Following the establishment of the UN, the world experienced over fifty years of peace and cooperation.  However, in the 1990s, the UN began, under US President Bill Clinton’s direction, to take another path. It ceased to uphold the principles outlined in the Declaration of Human Rights and, instead, morphed into an international institution with multi tentacles to attempt to force member states to adhere to an ideological agenda determined by Western countries.  This ideology promoted abortion, homosexual rights, extreme sex education programs, and transgenderism.  The UN also embarked on anti-Israel policies.  These policies have been relentlessly pushed, currently by U.S. President Joe Biden and the European Union (EU), which dominate the UN.

However, this is changing.  Mr. Biden’s term of office ends on January 20, 2025, with the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.  The EU has fallen into chaos.  This has been caused by France and Germany, which are in political and financial turmoil.  These two countries were the economic powerhouse of the EU. The hugely unpopular French President, Emmanuel Macron’s term of office ends in 2027, but he refuses to resign from his dysfunctional government until his term expires.  Similar to Canada’s Justin Trudeau, Macron resists pressure to resign because he believes that only he knows what is best for his country.  The German government is also dysfunctional and its unpopular Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, was forced to call an election for February 2025.  The results of this election will not be pretty for him.  The shaky EU is no longer in a position to swagger or dominate the UN.

President-Elect Donald Trump

President-elect Trump has nominated Elise Stefanik as his UN Ambassador.  She represents upper New York state in the US House of Representatives.  Ms Stefanik is pro-life/family and a friend of Israel.  The US pro-life organization, Susan B. Anthony, which monitors the voting records of Congress members, has given Ms Stefanik an A+ rating.

During President Trump’s first administration, he cut funding for domestic and international abortion providers.  He also cut funding to the UN agency Population Fund (UNFPA) which was embroiled in controversy for promoting abortions and being complicit in China’s coercive family planning program.  Then President Biden drastically increased funding for UNFPA, from $30 million to over $350 million in 2020 and 2023 without Congressional approval.

During his first term, Mr. Trump also withdrew funding from the woke, pro-abortion, anti-life World Health Organization (WHO).  In 2017, Mr. Trump also expanded the Mexico City Policy to fund all pro-life global health organizations and to prevent funding to foreign abortion providers.  It is anticipated that Mr. Trump will resume these policies.

More Good News at the UN

A coalition of traditional countries has been formed at the UN to resist Western pressure placed on them to conform to anti-family policies contrary to their values and religious beliefs. The UN has made funding for recipient countries conditional on them changing their policies to be in accordance with Western woke values.  The coalition of traditional, pro-family countries was evident at the recent UN Climate Change Conference held from November 11-22, 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan.  Diplomats and political leaders from nearly every country in the world attended the meeting.  Western governments, feminists, and other activists attempted to use this conference to insert abortion access and gender diversity in the final text.  This controversial language was removed from the document because of the strong objections from the traditional countries.

Canada’s Frayed and Tarnished International Image

Whenever Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attends an international conference, such as the G7 or the G20, he maneuvers to a prominent position in the official photographs.  These photographs, however, are misleading as they conceal the fact that Trudeau is isolated.  No one wishes to speak to him as he is an empty vessel, having nothing of value to say.  At the UN, Canada has been prompt to support the US and EU.   Canadian diplomats, however, are accorded little respect or credibility as Canada’s only purpose at the UN is to be a rubber stamp for the EU and the US.  Canada votes mindlessly for left-wing social issues and has also ended its long-standing tradition of supporting Israel.  Canada now votes for anti-Israel resolutions, or abstains.

A bright new day is now taking place at the UN.  Our hope is that Canada’s international reputation will be restored after its forthcoming election.
