Don’t think that no one cares about what happens at the UN. We can tell you who cares. The Left. The Left is using the UN to advocate for the sexual revolution all over the world. It is biding its time to achieve this objective.
The recently elected (May 2025) President of the UN General Assembly, a former Foreign Minister of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, is a hardline feminist who is now at the forefront of this left-wing hoped-for takeover of the UN. It is the first time, in the 80-year history of the UN, that Germany, the economic, social and political engine of the European Union (EU), has taken a lead role at the UN. Ms Baerbock has made no secret in her inaugural address as President of the General Assembly that she intends to impose her feminist policies at the UN at every turn. However, she met an obstacle in this plan when U.S. President Donald Trump was inaugurated on January 24, 2025. Since his inauguration Ms Baerbock and Mr. Trump have been locked in a fierce struggle over the values and direction of the UN. As a result, UN officials can no longer claim a consensus at the UN. On inauguration day, as the head of the most powerful and wealthiest nation in the world, Mr. Trump withdrew the U.S. from the UN World Health Organization (WHO). Small, poor countries, mainly in Africa, even though putting at risk future UN funding, have created a voting bloc at the UN to support the U.S. under Mr. Trump because his policies reflect their own values.
Mr. Trump withdrew the U.S. from the WHO because it was engaged in abortion and population control policies under the guise of promoting progress and equality for women and girls. WHO is also responsible for a sex education program that calls on children world-wide to respect diverse sexual practices including gender identity and abortion. The WHO is in partnership with International Planned Parenthood and the U.K. based Marie Stopes Abortion Foundation (now renamed M.S. Reproductive Choices). The Director General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, is not a physician. He was formerly an executive member of the Chinese-backed Marxist-Leninist revolutionary party in his home country of Ethiopia. This organization has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. Mr. Ghebreyesus was hand-picked by China to the position of Director General of the WHO. The agency is directly controlled by China, and its Director General predictably promotes communist China’s wishes, policies and projects. For example, Tedros Ghebreyesus covered up China’s responsibility for the spread of Covid-19 world-wide when China alleged that the virus was not transferrable, and permitted Chinese citizens to roam the world and spread the virus.
The WHO introduced a Pandemic Treaty, which if endorsed, will infringe on a nation’s sovereignty rights by way of an unelected and unreliable communist dominated agency. Under this treaty, the WHO will become the coordinating authority in the world on international health work, including pandemic prevention.
The U.S. has refused to sign this Pandemic Treaty. Prime Minister Mark Carney, however, supports the treaty. This is predictable since Mr. Carney has shown no interest in Canadian sovereignty rights, or the opinions of the Canadian public. We witnessed this characteristic in Mr. Carney when he unilaterally recognized the State of Palestine without consulting Canadians. Instead, he followed the lead of his hugely unpopular, globalist friends, UK Labour Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, and President Emmanuel Macron of France.
Mr. Trump has also reduced U.S. support for UNICEF by 20%. UNICEF was established in 1946 in the aftermath of WWII. Its purpose was to provide emergency help to child victims of the war. However, today this noble purpose has totally changed as UNICEF has become an agency that harms children’s lives. UNICEF now advances population control through promotion of sexual and reproduction rights (abortion) as well as homosexual rights. UNICEF also immerses itself in feminist policies in the developing world pretending they are promoting women’s rights. In spite of these harmful policies Mr. Trump still wants the agency to continue because of the genuine needs of children. Therefore, he only reduced the U.S. contribution to UNICEF as a warning that he wants immediate changes. The U.S. has been UNICEF’s largest financial supporter. In 2024, the U.S. contributed $1.1 billion to the agency’s work. UNICEF responded to the reduction in U.S. funding by making the grand gesture of removing from its website, several inappropriate brochures that encourage children in the Ukraine (of all places, where the children have a few other things to worry about!) to question their sexual orientation, develop a positive view of homosexuality and masturbation, and engage in sexual experimentation. Finally, Mr. Trump has ended U.S. support for UNESCO and UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) because of their advocacy for population control in developing nations. The Trump administration recently destroyed $10 million in contraceptive products that had been purchased by the previous Joe Biden administration. They were destroyed because rather than being used for family planning, which was the original intent, they were instead frequently finding their way to abortion facilities abroad, as well as being used for sterilizations. The U.S. administration is no longer setting aside these funds to purchase contraceptive products. Instead, these funds are now set aside for maternity care in developing countries.
Canadian Participation at the UN
Canada is a pipsqueak at the UN. Its purpose seems to be only to toot its little horn whenever the EU or one of the Nordic countries, which support the EU’s left-wing policies, makes a point in favour of anti-family policies. The recently appointed Canadian Ambassador to the UN is former Justice Minister David Lametti. As Justice Minister, Lametti was an enthusiastic supporter of abortion, MAiD, homosexual rights, the Emergencies Act and all such matters favoured by the extreme left-wing. Mr. Lametti had been one of Carney’s closest advisors since his election in April, working in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). However, Lametti lost out in a power struggle within the PMO and was pushed out of the PMO. As a consolation prize for this loss, Mr. Carney appointed Lametti ambassador to the UN. One can predict with confidence that Lametti will use his position at the UN to push the far-left, extremist agenda.
Canadian Approval of Treaties
Before a treaty can come into effect in Canada, that is, to become enforceable, it must be officially signed and then ratified (officially sanctioned). It is the practice in Canada for the Prime Minister at his sole discretion, with cabinet approval, to agree to the ratification of a treaty. That is, the treaties never come before Parliament for a debate or approval. Rather, they are regarded as only a policy matter to be determined by the governing party in power.
There are complications, however, in that, treaties may include matters of provincial jurisdiction only, and the federal government cannot legally approve provincial matters.
Another legal twist is that to be enforceable, the provisions must first be passed into domestic legislation. The federal government, however, usually sweeps these legal niceties aside as it did during the pandemic when the Liberal government declared the pandemic to be a “national emergency” and followed the WHO’s instructions to require lockdowns, travel restrictions, the wearing of masks etc. (health care is a provincial matter). All these complicated entanglements make it obvious that the Canadian ratifications system must be changed.
Even if a treaty is not legally enforceable, it still serves as a useful tool for interest groups such as feminists and aboriginals. They use it to push their agenda by creating political pressure on the government, claiming that the provisions in the treaty must be enforced.
It is especially important that the Canadian practice be changed in light of the controversial Pandemic Treaty, with all its implications.
Canadian Petition Objecting to the WHO Pandemic Treaty
Conservative prolife/family MP, Leslyn Lewis (Haldimand-Norfolk), is attempting to do something about this situation. She has prepared a petition that would require treaties, in particular, the Pandemic Treaty, to be brought before Parliament for debate.
REAL Women would appreciate it if our members would sign the petition (which can be accessed at the link below), objecting to the Pandemic Treaty and also the practice of failing to obtain parliamentary approval for treaty ratification. Please also write to Prime Minister Carney, Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre and your MP, raising concerns about the untenable situation wherein the Prime Minister and the cabinet only, determine whether the ratification of treaties occurs.
