In 2015 Justin Trudeau declared “I’m proud to be a feminist” and boldly proceeded to expand federal funding for feminist activists. In 2018 the Liberal government renamed the feminist Status of Women. It became a government department called WAGE (Women and Gender Equality).  At this time funding for 2SLGBTQI+ groups was added. By 2025 when Trudeau left office, federal funding by WAGE for 2SLGBTQI+ had surpassed the funding for the feminist funded component by $102 million.

WAGE also funds provincial and territorial governments to provide homosexual and feminist advancement. In 2024-25 they received $150 million from WAGE for promotion of 2SLGBTQI+, and $10 million to promote feminist advancement.

It should be noted that many homosexual groups which receive funding from WAGE, also receive further significant funding from other federal government departments such as Global (Foreign) Affairs; Health; Housing; Indigenous; Innovation, Science and Industry; Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness; Veterans, and others.  In short, the Liberal government has created a spider web of funding to be used to increase funding exclusively for homosexuals and feminists.

A WAGE departmental report also suggests that the 2SLGBTQI+ community can be extended, as WAGE is waiting for new terminology from the homosexual community which it is “empowering”, to provide future components of the homosexual community to fund.   It notes: “the evolution of language within communities may inform future evolutions of this acronym.” In other words, the federal government is open to funding for new 2SLGBTQI+ identities in addition to indigenous two spirited, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex.

Expenditures Balloon Under Trudeau

According to Public Accounts Transfer Payments, total expenditures for the decades-old Women’s Program in Status of Women (grants and contributions to feminist groups) had reached $19 million in 2014-15 when Justin Trudeau came to power. For fiscal year 2019-20, expenditures had tripled to $65 million.  By the time Justin Trudeau left office in January 2025, WAGE total expenditures had ballooned to $302 million, a 365% increase.

Mark Carney Almost Cuts Government Waste

In March 2025, Mark Carney announced cuts to WAGE and also removed the Minister for Women and Gender Equality from the Cabinet. Government funded feminist and gender groups were outraged that their “life-changing programs” would be slashed by 78%.  Unthinkable.

Using the global “victimhood” narrative, the feminist organization, CRIAW (Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women), announced that women and the gender diverse 2SLGBTQI+ were “under attack” from regressive anti-feminist organizations”.

CRIAW is a feminist group that began in April 1976, whose purpose is to      further feminist research in Canada.  CRIAW has been funded by the taxpayers over the years by the Status of Women as well as the Association of the Universities and Colleges of Canada, and the federal funded Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.  It is noteworthy that CRIAW is listed as a registered charity by Canada Revenue Agency, but that in fiscal year 2024-25, 92% of its $1.8 million budget was funded by WAGE. An unbelievable waste, since the purpose of CRIAW is to promote radical feminists and the 2SLGBTQI+ agenda.

Demands to restore the Trudeau level funding also came from the leftist lobby group CCPA (Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives), whose programs include  “public policy development advocacy activities.” CCPA is also a registered charity, which has received funding from WAGE and several other federal government departments, as well as from other registered charities. Canada Revenue reports that the Liberal government grant for CCPA was worth $1.1 million for 2019-20.

As a result of the government funded federal organizations lobbying Carney, he quickly reversed course. His budget in 2025 was compromised by an additional projected funding of $132 million annually for WAGE and a return to Cabinet for the Minister for WAGE.  So much for Carney being an improvement over Trudeau.  He is just more of the same.  Carney throws taxpayers’ money around just like Trudeau, even though he is supposed to be a financial expert.  In fact, the “victimhood” has expanded further under Carney. Prominent among demands for feminist women’s rights and gender equality are the controversial United Nations initiated sex education programs, fully funded abortion worldwide, “queer” and trans youth protection in schools, i.e., the right of minors to act independently of their parents regarding chemical and surgical treatments, futile and illusory attempts to change their natural sex. The union of feminism and 2LGBTQI+ has just become more obvious.

In going along with all this extremist nonsense, Carney has shown himself to be a weak man who is willing to throw aside principles, practical experience, common sense and integrity in order to obtain support for his goals.  This should be a red flag for Carney’s so-called partnership agreement with Communist China.  We know that Canada will be short-changed in his deal with China.

2SLGBTQI+ is Now the Top Recipient for WAGE Funding

Funding for the newly created gender diverse 2SLGBTQI+ equality component of WAGE, surpasses the feminist Status of Women Women’s Program, which is now a minor component of WAGE. 2SLGBTQI+ expenditures increased exponentially from $1.6 million in fiscal year 2019-20 to $186 million in 2024-25, an increase of 11,222%. The Women’s Program increased by 55% to $84 million in the same years, while Gender Based Violence increased 216% to $31million.  Taxpayers’ money, thanks to Liberal governments, is the basis for the existence of these victim organizations in Canada.

Take note of the details of how your taxes are being used.  The 2024-25 WAGE Departmental Results Report promotes a 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan advancing “2SLGBTQI+ rights at home and abroad.” It highlighted $7.7 million for a Data Strategy to shape public health and combat hate, $23 million for Pride festivals and an anti-stigma campaign to promote inclusion of 2SLGBTQI+, and  $22.2 million to build homosexual community organizations and networks across Canada.

Rather than solving economic problems facing the next generation hoping to form families, our tax dollars are directed to a Women (feminists) and Gender Equality (2SLGBTQI+) ideological future. We can expect increased propaganda at the public and community levels for 2SLGLBTQI and variants; for the tired and rejected feminist rhetoric on female victimhood; and for accusations that our Canadian culture has a colonialist history steeped in violence against women. Canadians did not vote for this, but that is what the Liberal government, under Carney, has done with our money.
