January 23, 2013.

Prostitution is violence against women.  It is sexual abuse and exploitation of women and girls.  Prostitution turns women and girls into sex objects, a commodity to be bought and sold.

Prostitution is inherently dangerous, no matter where it is carried out.  Legalizing or decriminalizing prostitution will not reduce the harm, danger or exploitation of women or girls.

Furthermore, human trafficking, drug addiction and organized crime are often associated with prostitution.

Parliament must send a clear message to society that prostitution is dehumanizing, degrading and distorts the value of people in society.

Please write to Justice Minister Peter MacKay, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and your own MP to ask Parliament to enact federal legislation to combat prostitution, sexual exploitation and human trafficking of women and girls and men.
