WHEREAS the nominations of MPs in Canada are subject to the approval of the party leader;

AND WHEREAS the appointment of MPs to Parliamentary Committees is determined by the party leader;

AND WHEREAS MPs are required to vote on government bills and frequently on private members’ bills according to their party’s direction;

AND WHERAS, the opinions and interests of the voters in the MPs’ constituencies are secondary to the MPs’ allegiance and responsibilities to his/her party;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the control over the MPs by their party must be modified to permit MPs to properly represent their constituents in Parliament, in accordance with democratic principles.
