WHEREAS parents are the primary nurturers of their own children;
AND WHEREAS government funding should help only those families with low or modest income, not affluent families;
AND WHEREAS only if parents receive the child-care subsidy directly so that they can choose the care they prefer for their children is the freedom of parents respected;
AND WHEREAS available research suggests that large institutions are not advisable for infants;
AND WHEREAS parents have the right to choose informal (“unlicensed”) care for their children;
BE IT RESOLVED that REAL Women of Canada approach the federal government and recommend that tax funds be used to help only lower and modest income families with necessary child care costs with subsidies.
