As we head into 2026, at the social level, Canada is facing its biggest challenge in decades, not posed by outside events, but rather by the internal loss of social cohesion as evidenced by the alarming rise of antisemitism and the failure of governments to protect Canadians from this social cancer.
It is painfully obvious that Canada can no longer “manage” the intense antisemitism brought here by Islamic activists. The failure to stand up to them is causing severe harm to our country, including its institutions, as well as to our legal and democratic processes. Islamic activists and their enablers/supporters want to fundamentally transform Canada into an Islamic caliphate ruled by Sharia law and Islamic norms. This is similar to what is also occurring in the UK, Europe and Australia. This transformation is being carried out by political tactics typically used in the Middle East, e.g., threats, harassment and violence, especially against Canada’s Jewish population. These tactics are justified by a pathological hatred of Jews and the desire to extinguish Israel as a nation state.
The rise of antisemitism should be a wake-up call for all decent people who wish to preserve the values which make possible our liberal democratic society. Canadians of the Jewish faith are the proverbial “canary in the coalmine”. Do we think that if Islam activists gain more control over this country, Christians will be left undisturbed? Not Likely. If a mob or individual, no matter what their ethnic composition might be, is allowed to carry on activity that amounts to discrimination and harassment of others simply because of their ethnic/religious identity, then no one is safe. It is necessary for Canada to protect Canadian citizens belonging to the Jewish faith as it does for all those who belong to other faiths.
What is Happening in Canada?
In the past two years since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, there have been hundreds of incidents undertaken by Islamic activists using unlawful means to achieve their objective of causing disturbance and chaos through harassment and intimidation. The Toronto Police Department has stated that it has been required to deal with over 800 protests in the past two years caused by Islamic activists, which is costing taxpayers millions of dollars above budgets, due to the deployment of extra police being paid at overtime rates. Unfortunately, it is characteristic of these disturbances that the police seldom make arrests or lay charges but merely monitor the protests. This failure to stop the protests has provided Islamic activists with a license to continue their protests and increase them. Canadians would be justified in asking why this is happening, since these protests have gone beyond legitimate rights of free expression and assembly to a situation where they are now breaking Canadian law without any consequences.
There are many examples of this taking place in Canada. A terrorist group, the Samidoun, also known as the Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, burned the Canadian flag in April 2024 during a demonstration taking place on Vancouver’s busy Burrard Street. The demonstrators shouted, “Death to Canada”. To date no charges have been laid against this organization. However, in October 2024, it was declared a terrorist group by the federal government.
Islamic protest groups are constantly interfering with pedestrian and vehicle traffic on the streets of major Canadian cities. These activists hold “prayer sessions”, usually near Israeli or US Consulate facilities, blocking traffic during the busiest time of the day. Not restricted to “political” targets, an Islamic prayer session took place every Sunday afternoon outside Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal for several months, intimidating individuals attempting to enter the Cathedral for Mass. No charges were laid. If a group of Catholics praying the Rosary had assembled outside a mosque they would have quickly been dispersed by police and charged with disturbing the peace. It is the normal practice of Canadians to pray in their churches, synagogues or homes, not disrupting main thoroughfares. These Islamic prayer sessions are not occurring for religious reasons, but for political purposes.
Arson has occurred outside Jewish businesses and synagogues. Jewish elementary schools have been shot at or vandalized on numerous occasions. Jewish prayer scrolls, mezuzah, have been ripped from the door posts of Canadian Jewish residents. No charges have been laid. Protests are constantly taking place in predominantly Jewish neighborhoods, intimidating the residents of these communities who are in fear for their lives. Still, no charges have been laid.
During the Christmas shopping period in 2024 and on Boxing Day 2025, Islamic mobs protested in one of the largest shopping centres in Canada, the Eaton’s Centre in Toronto, highlighting their protest in front of the Jewish-owned bookstore Indigo. Also, on Boxing Day 2025, in Winnipeg, a Jewish synagogue was vandalized and, among other things, was spray-painted with a swastika. No other form of discrimination and racism is allowed in Canada. Why is antisemitism being allowed? Again, no charges have been laid. Although supporters of Islam do not agree with Christmas, it is an important Canadian tradition, and Canadians of many differing faiths, or no faith, enjoy this tradition, including many of the Jewish tradition! It is intolerable that Canadians have been subjected to harassment, threats and intimidation during one of the most important holidays we have, and that no police action is taken against these protestors. In contrast, in February 2022, the federal Liberal government, under Justin Trudeau, invoked the Emergencies Act against the peaceful Canadians participating in the Freedom Convoy in Ottawa. The leaders of the Freedom Convoy have been subjected to persecution, jailed and over a two-year period subject to prosecution for their alleged wrongdoing. Why is there a different standard applied in Canada to Islamic activists who appear to be exempt from prosecution?
Simply put, Canadians should be asking why authorities, such as politicians, police and university administrators/faculty, are supporting this atrocious behaviour by Islamic activists who are targeting Canada’s Jewish population? Why is there a failure to protect ordinary hardworking Canadian taxpayers, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, from the vicious hate propaganda and intimidation that are disturbing their peaceful daily lives?
Canada Has the Tools to Protect Canadians
The problem with not actively responding to these blatant instances of ongoing antisemitic activities is that it normalizes antisemitism and leads to further and more daring acts of antisemitism. We already have laws to protect Canadians and respond to these Islamic extremists. Section 318 of the Criminal Code prohibits advocating or promoting genocidal destruction of an identifiable group. Section 319 of the Criminal Code prohibits the incitement of hatred against any identifiable group where such incitement is likely to lead to a breach of the peace. Canadian Jews are clearly an “identifiable group”, and Islamic activists are clearly expressing their hatred for Jews and calling for their destruction. Why have the Canadian authorities, and the Attorney General of Canada in particular, not brought Criminal Code charges against Islamic activists? There is no freedom in Canada to demand genocide or provoke hate, yet these Islamic activists are permitted to do so. In addition, why are the police not laying charges for disturbing the peace, threats and intimidation, and the destruction of private property? It seems that Islamic activists, in a blatant attempt by Liberal politicians to curry political favour among newly arrived Moslem voters, are exempt from laws, while other Canadians must comply with them.
Why Don’t We Act?
In the past two years Canadians have experienced the influence of Islamic activists from the Middle East. Examples of their influence include:
- Canadian military chaplains are prohibited from invoking God at public military events in order not to offend those of the Muslim faith.
- Canadian foreign policy has abandoned Israel and supports a separate Palestinian State.
- Prime Minister Mark Carney has proclaimed that “Muslim values are Canadian values”.
- Elementary school children in public schools across the country no longer celebrate the birth of Jesus in a manger in Bethlehem – the basis of the Christian faith. Their annual concerts celebrate the “Season” as the celebration of the global brotherhood of mankind promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Public servants have been requested to avoid scheduling lunches, coffee breaks and chats during Muslim Ramadan as it may make Muslim colleagues uncomfortable. Government managers have been requested, when scheduling meetings, to avoid early morning or late afternoons when fasting Muslim employees may have lower energy because of fasting.
If Canada does nothing, we will inevitably re-enact the grievous situation that occurred during the Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia on December 14, 2025, when 15 individuals were shot to death and forty people injured by two Islamic terrorists. The Canadian federal government’s Integrated Threat Assessment Centre (ITAC), which is a specialized organization in the Canadian intelligence community, has warned that the ingredients that led to the atrocity in Sydney already exist in Canada. It is only a matter of time before such an incident occurs here.
Warnings appear to be falling on deaf ears in Ottawa and elsewhere in Canada. It is a disturbing pattern of willful blindness from Canada’s political elites. It is not without significance that while other Muslim-majority countries such as Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates have banned the Muslim Brotherhood, the Canadian government has remained on the sidelines. Indeed, in one of the more ironic moments of 2025, the United Arab Emirates announced UAE scholarships would no longer be available to their citizens who choose to attend British universities. The reason for the restriction is reported to be based on concerns that UAE students will become radicalized in Britain due to the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Time for an Adult Conversation
The recent rise of antisemitism in Canada occasions the necessity to have an adult conversation and ask hard questions of ourselves as well as of others. Some of those questions revolve around the failures of multiculturalism to foster a more cohesive social order and a shared sense of national identity and shared values. Other questions revolve around immigration and expectations respecting what is required of new immigrants to assimilate into the existing Judeo-Christian norms that govern political and social life in the public square.
Should not immigrants who are breaking Canadian laws be made accountable for doing so, and be considered for deportation if convicted? Would Canadians be foolish not to consider the implications of admitting additional immigrants from the Middle East when the current 4.9% of our population who support Islam have caused so much havoc here? Indeed, why are we allowing so many people into our country who do not share our basic beliefs and values regarding the rule of law and human rights?
If Canadians are not prepared to have a serious conversation and confront the grievous situation that has occurred here in the past two years, we will have only ourselves to blame when we lose our country’s traditions and heritage. If we do not consider this matter, we will also lose our own self-respect.
